Intel i7 integrated graphics overriding graphics card?

I recently got a new laptop (dell xps 17) with an Intel i7-2820QM, which has some built integrated graphics (called "Intel hd graphics family" in the control panel). The problem I am having with this is that some things are reading the integrated graphics as my main graphics card (instead of my geforce gt 555m). The result of this is many graphics options (mostly in games) are automatically turned down to minimum, since it only reads the 56mb of video ram from the i7. This wouldn't be a problem, except for some games (GTA IV for example), will not let me turn up graphics over what is recommended. Is there any way I can change things so the nvidia card will be read first?
